One of the most special treasures from Budapest are the thermal baths that are spread around the city. You can relax into the streaming, mineral-rich thermal water for hours and even take a massage to fully relax. But why should you really go? If the healing effects of balneotherapy could not convince you, maybe the social gatherings and the unique architecture from the baths can persuade you! We already went to most of them so we can give you the best reviews. Our top 3 exists of the Rudas baths, Széchenyi Baths and Géllert baths and we will explain you why:


#1 The Rudas Baths

Our number one favorite thermal baths from Budapest are the Rudas baths! It has absolutely everything you need, the prices are not that expensive and the massages are amazing. Believe us… The two most special things about these baths are the outside hot tub on the rooftop and the dim. If you want to have the full experience, we recommend you to buy the ticket that covers both the indoor and outdoor section. While bathing in this steaming hot tub, you will have the most beautiful view of both the city as some nature. You can even have a little photoshoot…

The other extraordinary thing about this place is the beautiful dim, an octagonal bath chamber, which was built in the 16th century and still amazes people every day. It is also possible to take a night swim on Friday or Saturday evening!

#2 Széchenyi Baths

Next, we present to you the most famous thermal baths of Budapest “the Széchenyi Bahts”, which is also called the Time Square of thermal baths. It’s a beautiful place, with 3 big outside pools and 15 indoor pools. It has annually 1.7 million visitors, which explains why less than 10% exists of local people and why it can sometimes feel more like an amusement park. It is famous because of its architecture, the mosaics inside the Baroque Revival building, the many Instagram posts from travelers and even the party’s they organize during Saturday evenings. We really recommend you to relax in the steaming outdoor pools during the winter months.

#3 Géllert Baths

Last but not least, the stunning Géllert Baths! It is attached to Hotel Géllert and attracts people from all over the world. The indoor pools are studded with turquoise ceramics and receive a lot of sunshine through the sky windows, which you can also see on the many Instagram post from visitors. There are 8 indoor pools, while 2 themal pools are outside. This thermal bath is famous for its main hall with gallery and glass roof, built in Art-Nouveau style.

We are also going to give you a few tips how to best prepare yourself for the thermal baths. The only things you need to bring with you are: a swimsuit, a towel and a pair of sandals. If you would like to swim in the swimming pools you will also need to bring a swim cap. But don’t worry! If you forget something you can always buy it at the stores in the baths. There are two reasons why it’s better to go during weekdays. The first one is that the baths operate at full capacity during the weekends, which means that it’s really crowded, and the second one is that the prices are less expensive on weekdays. And last but not least, don’t forget the additional services like private baths, pedicures and massages for an extra charge. It’s definitely worth it!
